Important Announcement
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and encourage individuals and communities to support children and families. Connie Kight's company, Community Partnership for Children, is having two fundraisers to support children in our community. The first was for April 29, so it has expired. The second fundraiser is the Mall Mania Event. This is a special event for foster children and is scheduled to run August 14 through August 16. The Volusia Mall in Daytona has agreed to give $50 toward funds that Community Partnership for Children gives to each child in foster care for school clothes. This gives each youth more money to shop with and an opportunity to shop in an environment other than Wal-Mart and K Mart. Personnel from CPC and foster parents alike will drive the Putnam county foster children to Daytona for this event. You can get involved by sponsoring a child for the Mall Mania. One hundred percent of your sponsorship goes directly to a Putnam area foster child so that they can buy back to school clothing. It’s also a tax-deductible donation! Learn more about this valuable program by visiting the communitypartnershipforchildren.org website. |
Minutes for meeting of Rat Island Yacht Club
June, 2009
Present: All Officers
The meeting came to order at 7:20 when Commodore Justin rang the rat bell and called for the salute to the flag. He introduced the new member and thanked everyone for allowing him to be Commodore.
Minutes are on web site and treasury report may be obtained by any member who contacts the treasurer.
Old Business:
Justin asked for nominations for all offices and stated that Bob Moore is willing to be Commodore. Don Bayshore was asked to send out the newsletter, but he said no. It was then mentioned that Frank Journey might be willing to do this and he will be asked. Richard was nominated for Vice-Commodore and he accepted. Since there were no more entries the slate of officers for next year are: Bob Moore, Commodore; Richard Ashley, Vice-Commodore; Alice Clark, Secretary; (with no one else offering to take this job) and Kevin Barraclough, Treasurer.
Connie will send out invitations for special events and Don Bayshore will oversee raft-up plans.
Golf Tournament: The group is still working on this project, but Tommy did give a brief explanation of how they planned to set it up.
July 4th party- at 618 River St., Palatka and Connie will send out the invitations. The club asks $3.00 per person and $5.00 for a family. Ribs and Chicken will be ready at 5 pm, but come whenever you want. Remember to bring a special dish to share.
Kevin has ordered additional Azalea Regatta shirts and will have them soon.
Decanter Race: Folks need to get involved in this fun activity that will take place on Saturday, November 14. (This year, there will be separate committees to work on this and the Lighted Boat Parade.)
New Business:
This year the club is ten years old and Kevin would like for us to plan several events to celebrate this. One project is to re-print the original shirt with a ten year mark on the sleeve.
There was a discussion about a weekend boating excursion on Labor Day Weekend. More about that next month.
Note: Richard is ordering Rat Gear. Contact him if you need something.
The meeting was closed at 8:10.
